Rustler teams headed to state tournament
Filed under SportsMar 8Two easy victories on March 5 have landed both the boys and girls basketball teams from C.M. Russell High School at the state tournament March 11-13 in Billings. The Lady Rustlers beat the Great Falls High School Lady Bison 59-37 to advance to the state tournament for the seventh time in seven years. They face Helena High at 9 a.m. Thursday.
The boys beat Butte High School 70-47. The boys, the 2009 state champions, ended their season at 18-3 and are seeded No.2. They face Flathead at noon Thursday, March 11.

The hard work of the girls and boys basketball teams overpowers mistakes as they each go into state ranked second.

Good morning, for the second straight month my piece will be on the NFL. Obviously I could talk about the Rustler basketball teams or the two state championships that Eddie Mac and the gang brought home to CMR three weeks ago, but I think because of proximity it would be apropos to speak about the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, Ladanian Tomlinson, and the upcoming NFL draft (that means Mr. Chomp). Surrounded by a sea of pink shirts, CMR attendance clerk Lillian Senne held onto seniors Blake Stenzel and Brian Spencer on her way to center court Feb. 13.
Senne, who has worked at CMR for 12 years, is battling cancer, and the recognition she received at the boys’ basketball game is just one honor among many.
“I was honored to represent for cancer awareness,” she said. “I am very blessed and appreciative because I know it does help.”
Senne said she was surprised to be asked to appear at the game. The students chose to wear the color pink in support of the woman they’ve stood by all year. Read the rest of this entry »

In front of a packed crowd in the CMR Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon (Feb. 6), the CMR boys basketball team handed No. 1 ranked Billings West a solid defeat. The Rustlers won 80-62.
The JV team lost to Billings West 58-56. The sophomore and freshmen teams beat Billings.
In a closer contest Friday night (Feb. 5), the Rustler boys beat Billings Skyview 63-59.

Kate Striepe is a strong player on the basketball team, but you won’t hear her bragging about herself.

Basketball teams off to good beginning

The Rustler basketball teams are off to a great start to the season, and it just got underway. The boys have a record of 2-0, with wins versus Helena Capital on Dec. 11, and in Kalispell against Glacier on Dec. 12.

Rustler basketball season is almost here, and senior Kate Striepe could not be more ready.
“I think [the season] will be pretty good, if we stay together as a team.”
