Swimming to State: More Than an Achievement
Filed under Sports, Staff BlogsFeb 20by Simon Ljunggren (a member of the CMR Swimming team that won the state meet Feb. 13, 2010)
On the afternoon of February 13th, I was on a podium with the rest of my relay team as the rest of the officials were just finishing piecing together the final points to determine who the state champions were this year. Swimming is not just a sport for senior Derek Lair; it’s a part of everyday life.
“I love racing and pushing myself as hard as I possibly can,” Lair said. He has been swimming for three years at CMR — 10 years overall.

He said that he can swim the “200 individual medley in 1:53,” and his “freestyle in 45 seconds.”
“I feel really accomplished, but it also gives me something else to works towards,” Lair said. “I want to place high in the NCAA championships.” Read the rest of this entry »

After winning state two times in a row, the Great Falls swim team, GFHS swimmers and CMR swimmers combined, are hoping to make it a three peat. The swimmers practice five days a week for two and a half hours a night to achieve this goal.
