Running a mile in fourth grade gym served to be a little something more than a fitness test for 15-year-old Cambria Hassell, who discovered a hidden talent.
“I didn’t even know I could run,” Hassell said.
As a freshman, Hassell ran her way to state making a personal record of 5.26 in the mile, her second meet and a 12.04 in the 2 mile, in Missoula.
“I was really happy and really proud,” she said.
Making state this early in the track and field season is just one goal of many she hopes to accomplish.
“I think if I continue to do it I will get better and get a scholarship,” she said.
Track and field requires teamwork and cheering crowds for support.
“Getting to work with a team and someone cheering for you pushes us harder,” Hassell said.
One thing being a long distance runner has taught Hassell is that “you have to work harder to reach goals,” she said.
