Steve Titcomb

Many people know teacher Steve Titcomb as a history buff, but few probably know that he also has an appetite for adventure.

“I’ve flown in a single-engine plane coast to coast,” Titcomb said.

Titcomb and his father journeyed from Connecticut to Washington in his father’s plane, stopping for gas about every four hours. They spent the night in various states across the country as they flew.

            “It was quite an experience.”

As for any more travels, Titcomb hopes to visit his daughter, who recently moved to New York, after Christmas.

“We want to see a Broadway show while we’re there, maybe ‘Sister Act,’” he said.

While teaching is his current occupation, it was not Titcombs’s first career.

“I used to work for an insurance company,” he said. After eight years, he made the switch to teaching based on his love of history and working with kids.

“I like the interaction [of teaching] much better than sitting and answering phones.”
