Junior Will Kenyon moved to Montana at the age of 9. Living in a state with one of the longest snowy seasons in the U.S., his dad wanted to teach him about the wonder of snowboarding. Kenyon found himself falling for the sport like the snow from the sky. This led him to the decision of pursuing it as a career. This year, Dec. 7 marks his 4th year as a snowboarding mentor at Neihart’s ski hill, Showdown Montana.
“My favorite part about working at Showdown is being able to interact with people that love and are passionate about the same things that I am,” Kenyon said.
In preparation for the snowboarding season, Kenyon purchases new equipment, waxes his snowboard, and attends Showdown management meetings . These training sessions are ways for employees to devise new goals for themselves each year.
“My goal this year is to grow as a person and as an instructor,” Kenyon said. “I just want to be able to provide a solid foundation to everyone I teach.”
As Kenyon’s passion for snowboarding grows every year, he always finds himself seeking the adrenaline rush.
“When you can only snowboard for four months out of the year, there’s only so much time, so you have to take advantage of it.”
