“Art is knowledge made visible. It is conscious human expression in visual form. It is essential to the understanding of and participation in our increasingly complex and interdependent society.”
This is what the GFPS Art Department quoted on the GFPS website. The CMR Art Club welcomes anyone and everyone who is interested. Every Tuesday after school from 3:15-5 p.m., students go into the art room and work on pieces, sketch, or just hang out. Students work with various art materials that use numerous techniques involved in things such as painting, ceramics, crafts, and mixed media. Some past projects that the Art Club has worked on include fundraising, parade float building, murals, and face paintings in Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art.
Olivia Fairhurst, who’s part of the Art Club, said, “I was interested in Art Club because of the people. I feel that Art Club has a very welcoming vibe to it that I enjoy. In Art Club, I like seeing my friends express themselves in different ways. Even though I’m not very good at traditional styles of art, in this club I’ve found that there’s other ways to be creative. “I think people should join because it’s for everybody. The club is very welcoming, [and] I also think that Art Club has some really good resources that can help you grow as an artist.”
