Here at CMR we hold plenty of clubs in hopes of fostering every students interest and passions! These clubs range from Art Club to Dungeons and Dragons, varying widely. Somewhere in the midst stands CMR HOSA- Health Occupation Students of America.
In this club, students meet and practice what they will compete in health occupation competitions all over the United States. These will set the students up for success in achieving their future career goals. Going to nationals in the past, has meant Houston, Texas, or maybe a sunny trip to Dallas, which has gone down in history as some of the students’ favorite memories.
Teacher Christi Virts has been the leader of this club for years and has had some great results with competition placements over the seasons. After speaking with senior Shae Sweeney, and sophomore Chrystal McCloskey, I got to have a sneak peak into the community this club creates. McCloskey said that her favorite memories include “Traveling and creating bonds with all of my HOSA friends while also meeting new people.”
Sweeney, in her four years with HOSA, has taken a leading role with her peers. This year she played a huge role in planning the Lost Enzyme Project Fundraiser.
“There was a lot of pressure and work to make sure that everything went smoothly and we had a good outcome,” she said. It is clear to see that this CMR club helps students exercise their career technical skills and prepares them for their life in a fun/inviting manner!
