CMR students participated in their annual homecoming parade on Oct 3rd. The students built their floats throughout the week over the course of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, at the Expo Park in the Heritage building. The parade, as a result of these efforts, was a complete success as it flowed its way down Central Avenue downtown.
Participants assembled in their designated order, beginning with each class float. The Art Club and choir led the procession, followed by senior royalty, GFPD, JROTC, the Wranglers, and the Band. The parade continued with the remaining clubs and concluded with the other class royalty floats and sports teams.
The parade was a major turnout with lots of people attending, waving and celebrating CMR homecoming week. The atmosphere was fun and energy was high and positive, full of cheering and clapping and a general feel of happiness and joy.
CMR had many great floats this year, of which got judged by various CMR staff members up in the balcony of the Kauffman’s Men’s Wear Store. The judges divided the groups of floats into clubs, classes, and sports. The club that took first place is the Journalism club, with various yearbook, newspaper and journalism members participating. “I think our float wasn’t just about superheroes, but about how we all have a passion for storytelling and protecting our First Amendment rights. I think I can speak for everyone on the team when I say we’re super grateful to have been noticed and get the win!” said Gangi.
CMR newspaper editor-in-chief Malena Gangi proudly celebrated as the journalism float took first place in the competition. Centered around a superhero theme, the float showcased “Defenders of the First Amendment,” symbolizing the power of a free press. Journalism members used the float to champion the freedoms of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition the very rights they defend every day.
“I’m beyond proud of our club for this achievement! And I wish we could’ve shared the win with more groups! Everyone had fantastic ideas and it was incredible to see how much creativity each group poured into their own floats,” Gangi said.
Each float chose its own theme, and participants put remarkable effort into bringing their ideas to life with creativity and detail, she said. That attention to detail made the parade more enjoyable and gave it an energetic, festive atmosphere. It was the perfect way to cap off CMR’s 60th homecoming celebration.
