On May 10, the Wellness class second period enjoyed cake courtesy of senior Lily Bridenthal, who baked the cake as part of her final project in the class. The class was divided into groups of three, and each group was responsible for teaching one class period. Topics included nutrition, exercise, gratitude, coping with stress and happiness.
In this semester-long course, led by journalism teacher Beth Britton, students learn a variety of healthy habits designed to help them navigate what can often seem like an anxiety-ridden, stressful world. Students can expect to actively participate in class activities, including journaling, drawing, volunteering, meditating and sharing opinions during class discussions. Discussion and “happiness homework” topics will include social connection, screen time, nutrition, sleep, physical activity, and time management. By the end of the semester, students will have identified their signature strengths, beginning a lifelong journey into holding themselves accountable for using those strengths to cultivate their own happiness and deal with stress. Students will learn and practice habits that they can use for the rest of their lives.
