There is a new CMR English teacher who is a musician and poet on a mission to inspire her students.
“If I could spark someone to start writing their own poetry, that’s my favorite,” Rebecca Linton said.
The newest addition to the English department, Linton said she is excited for her first school year in Great Falls.
Formerly working at Instacart in Kalispell, she was inspired to change her career. She teaches English 5-6 and 3-4 in room 219.
Even though she moved here to pursue teaching, Linton said her passion lies with music. She recognizes that even if you’re passionate about something you don’t have to put it out there.
“You don’t always have to market your soul,” she said.
Linton said she has been playing instruments – including cello, piano and guitar – since childhood, writing and composing her own songs while covering others.
Though she’s a musician, music wasn’t what she wanted to pursue as a career.
She said there are little traditions her classroom has gained a love for even in the first months of school, and one of those is gratitude Tuesdays. Each Tuesday Linton’s student’s write little notes for their bellringers about what they’re grateful for that week.
“Not all gifts are beautifully wrapped,” she said, adding that everyone can be grateful for so much in their lives.
Linton said if she’s learned anything, it’s that being a teacher offers a lot to be grateful for.
“It’s so cool to be around people who are funny and creative and bright.”
