Over 5,000 miles and three states is how far a new CMR teacher has traveled in the last three years.
“I didn’t grow up in a place with mountains,”
Said Landyn Tutor, one of CMR’s new English teachers. She is not only new to CMR, but the whole state of Montana.
Moving all the way from Alaska, and before that Mississippi, Tutor isn’t a native to Great Falls.
Tutor’s love of teaching has stuck with her through all her moves across the country, ever since she was inspired by one of her own high school English teachers.
“I felt like he cared more about the people we became than the test grades we got,” she said. She described the atmosphere he created in class, how her teacher had provided them the tools to become a well rounded person, and how that’s what she’d like to do in her own room.
Tutor’s Been teaching for three years, the last two spent in Alaska teaching sixth grade at North Pole Middle School.
No matter where she’s teaching, Tutor said that there’s a moment in class she always appreciates.
“When we start reading between the lines of stuff, that’s my favorite,” she said.
As she learns the dynamics of her new school, she’s been able to positively influence the English department. Tutor’s love for her subject has continued to flourish as she’s been at CMR. She teaches English 1-2 and academic literacy in room 314.
“It’s not even the school itself,” she said. “I really like all the traditions. when I was doing my walkthrough and seeing all the little things.”
