The orchestra 80’s themed dance was an organized event hosted by Orchestra teacher here at CMR, Steve Olson in the interest of raising money for the trip to LA, California. The dance was a student body event available to students in and outside of the orchestra program.
During an interview with Steve Olson, he described the process of setting up the dance. “I didn’t do a whole lot of work. The orchestra council set everything up and reached out to the people in charge of permission and handled all of the decorations,”
so it was easy for me, I just had to be there to unlock things and get the lights on.”
The dance brought the 80’s back with its amazing variety of songs chosen for the event, succeeding in every regard to bring back that groovy feeling. The dance featured iconic songs from the 80’s era, such as “Separate Ways” By Journey, a Guns N’ Roses piece titled “Paradise City” and other famous 80’s tunes that changed the music industry.
The students at the dance gathered in groups, conversing, dancing and socialising, creating a fun and inviting atmosphere.
The highlight of the dance for Olson, “Overall, it was cool to see the kids’ hard work come together and have them put on a schoolwide event for a fundraiser.” he said,
The Orchestra dance was a success as it helped bring fundraising, a great socializing opportunity for many students and a chance to have a night of fun for the populace. Fundraising events such as this dance are key elements to CMR as a school and bring a positive atmosphere to the Rustler body.
