While CMR Wrestling achieved great combined success in the 25-26 season, every individual performance counts.
Varsity senior Madelyn Osterman finishes her second and final year of wrestling feeling good. Although she faced many struggles, such as cutting weight and losing a practice partner, Osterman looks back on the season with bittersweet feelings.
“I went into the season thinking that I wasn’t going to get that emotional, but now that we’ve had our senior night and it’s nearing the end it’s hitting closer to home because of all the bonds that have been made.” Osterman says.
In the beginning of her junior year, Osterman received encouragement and slight peer pressure from her friends to give wrestling a shot. After the first practice she developed an interest in wrestling and has loved it ever since. Her favorite part of wrestling, since the beginning, has always been the team and the community that surrounds her. Her team has always been with her through thrilling victories and disheartening losses.
“We have a bond that no one else understands because we’re all going through the same traumatic events.” she said.
The team is always open to newcomers, and starting a new sport is difficult. Junior Tennyson Brewer, however, conquered it like a champ. Brewer tackled many new physical challenges, but the most difficult challenge was mental. She set high expectations for herself, not all being easily achievable, but she was able to overcome those obstacles with the help of the team and close the season successfully.
“I feel like this season went by very fast, but I also think I’ve progressed a lot more than I expected to.” she said.
Moving over to the junior varsity team, freshman Charles Carvell wrapped up his second year of wrestling this season with nothing but good feelings. One thing that kept Carvell motivated was the community and the work ethic shown by others. While facing challenges such as staying consistent, Carvell continued showing up for his team and giving wrestling his best effort.
“It was a grind, but you just have to keep showing up and it will get easier”
As the wrestling season came to a close, CMR performed well at the state tournament. The team’s performance was a culmination of consistent improvement and shared spirit.
