For freshman, Nolan Stewart, lunch is one of the most important things in his day-to-day life at Charles M. Russell High School.
“I would say that the lunch lines in the cafeteria here are much bigger compared to North Middle School,” Stewart said.
Stewart predicted that during the winter, the cafeteria would be much more crowded than other seasons, because of the amount of kids that will stop walking off campus due to the snow and cold. He says that the amount of people at lunch is harsh, the lines can get way too long.
The lines may be long, but lunch is still a highly needed part of the day.
“ I like that there are five more minutes because I get to talk more,” Stewart said.
He said that he overall enjoys this new routine, because he gets to talk with all of his friends, and has more time with them.
Although Stewart stays on campus for lunch, Samara Hankerson goes off campus, almost daily, to get her own lunch.
“The lines were much faster last year,” Hankerson said.
Hankerson said that she has to leave the school quickly to arrive before the rush of people going to Sam’s Club for lunch. She says she takes her wins with her losses. Though the line appears long, it doesn’t feel like it’s moving slowly. Nevertheless, she always tries to hurry back to the school so that she isn’t late for class.
“Maybe if the tardy system was better,” Hankerson said.
Like Hankerson, Robin Eubanks also worries about being late to class with the new tardy system.
“I think if they added more time we would be okay,” Eubanks said.
She said that she’s only been late to class a few times, but she hasn’t gotten in trouble, since it was only by a few seconds. Eubanks said that she also does not like the joined lunch schedule, because it gets way too crowded and loud at times. Eubanks said that she wishes that there was more time for lunch, so she wouldn’t be late and so that she could talk with her friends more than she already does.
“I think if they added more time then lunch would be much better.”
