Mary Brown earns FFA State Extemporaneous Public Speaking title
April 23, 2018
Mary Brown placed 1st in the 2018 Montana FFA Extemporanious Public Speaking contest. In the extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership Development events, participants are given 30 minutes to write a 4-6 minute speech on one of three randomly drawn agricultural topics. Members are allowed to bring up to five print resources with them, which can include a 100-page notebook of articles, blogs, or other print media. Students must learn to think on their feet and develop an argument quickly and persuasively.
Mary spoke twice at the State FFA Convention — first in preliminary rounds and then on the main stage for finals. Mary’s topic for finals was “How is agriculture technology used in agriculture and how should it be regulated.”
Brown will have the opportunity to speak at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October.
