To cap off the 2012-2013 swimming season, the Rustlers headed south to Hardin, the site of the state swimming meet.
In girls swimming, Helena High School earned first place at the Feb. 8-9 state swimming meet with 220 points, Hellgate High School scored 218 points, Bozeman High School earned 154 points, and the CMR girls, who won five consecutive state titles from 2008-2012, came in fourth place with 103 points. Missoula’s Sentinel High School came in fifth with 102 points.
Senior Shelby Sechena, the team captain, won first place in the 500 freestyle and second place in the 200 freestyle.
On the boys side, first place went to Helena High School with 179 points. The Rustler boys came in seventh place with 53 points.
Freshman Patrick Brennan earned third place in the 100 breaststroke.
Assistant coach Julie Anderson said that she is proud of her whole team and they tried their hardest.
Anderson said that her team will be doing better next year, considering just about all of Helena High’s team was seniors and that they will all be gone.
“The freshman were young and will have a much better time their sophomore year,” Anderson said.
