Tennis Q&A: Lindsay Martinez
Q: How long have you been playing tennis, and how did you get started?
A: I got started when I was five years old, and I played at the Country Club.
Q: Why did you choose tennis as the sport you particularly wanted to participate in?
A: My family was into tennis, and they would always take my brothers and I to play on the weekends. It’s just something that I have always enjoyed.
Q: What’s your favorite aspect of the sport?
A: It’s just fun to be able to do fun things with the tennis racket, like cool tricks. It’s something I have always enjoyed.
Q: How has your technique changed since you were younger?
A: When you’re little in tennis, the person who gets the ball over the net wins, but when you get into high school, it takes more.
Q: What is the most challenging aspect of the sport?
A: For a lot of kids, it’s the mental stuff. It’s like an emotional roller-coaster.
Q: What’s the most rewarding part of playing tennis?
A: It’s when you can do stuff for your teammates. We got second place, and I was pretty happy to get to help our team out.
Q: How did you feel after winning state tennis this year?
A: I was pretty excited and a bit relieved. It was pretty exciting because I’ve never won state soccer or tennis before.
Q: What advice do you have for beginning tennis players?
A: Have fun with it.
