For many, stepping outside their comfort zone means tasting an unusual food, talking to a stranger, or speaking to a large group of people. But for sophomore Kendra Underwood, it means taking on a much larger commitment: volleyball.
“I just wanted to try something new,” she said. “I’ve learned that meeting new people and going outside your comfort zone makes you a better person.”
Underwood, who has been involved in volleyball since she was in the fifth grade, currently plays on CMR’s sophomore team on the right side. Originally participating in the sport as a way to try something new, she found that taking part in it was a great way to make friends.
“The best thing about volleyball is being on a team,” she said. “I like spending time with different people and meeting new ones.”
She values the support her teammates give one another, and enjoys being a part of it.
“When people get down on themselves, I try to bring them back up and stay positive whether we are losing or winning.”
